  • Arthur "Art" Russell Matchett, of Williamstown, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 84.

    Born in Bridgetown, he was the son of the late Norman and Mary (Keating) Matchett. He was retired from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and was also a radio announcer with the former CKMR Radio. Art was also a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Father Dixon Council No. 4886.

    He will be greatly missed by his wife Jean (McDonald) Matchett of Williamstown; two daughters Zabrina Matchett (Dan Sobie) of Chilliwack, BC and Tanya Matchett of Fredericton, NB; three sisters Brenda Matchett, Norma Matchett, and Celine Blacquiere all of Dieppe, NB; one brother Bob Matchett of Lower Derby; granddaughter Sanora; as well as several nieces and nephews.

    Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers Vincent, Clayton, Allie, and Reggie; his sister Rosalie Duguay; and two infant sisters.

    The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at 2 pm, from St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Antonio Reyes officiating.

    As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or to a memorial of one's choice.
