Arthur McAllister

May 8, 1955 — May 9, 2024

Arthur (Art) John Nairn McAllister, of Miramichi, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the age of 69.

Born in Newcastle, NB, he was the son of the late Freeman and Mary (Walsh) McAllister. Prior to retirement, he was a journeyman steamfitter-pipefitter at UPM-Kymmene Miramichi and Brunswick Mines and a beloved and respected hockey coach. He was also a member of UA Local 325, construction union, St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Miramichi, Moncton Junior A hockey team as a teenager, and the original Miramichi Northmen.

A hard-working, very handy, and dedicated man, Art will be remembered for his love of his family and friends, his passion for the Toronto Maple Leafs, fly-fishing, and his woodpile. He could usually be found outside or in his garage working on a project. In both hockey and life, he was always willing to “go into the corners” for what he believed in.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Carol (Horsman) McAllister; daughters Krista Hopson (Steve Hopson), Kendra McLean (Kris McLean), Kera McAllister (Don Wilcox); his four grandchildren Ella Hopson, Ben Hopson, Kailyn McLean, and Katherine (Katie) McLean; and his grand “fur” children deceased Cassie, Charlee, deceased Doug, Maverick, Goose, and Khaleesi.

Art leaves behind his eight sisters Anna Guitard (Late Gus) of South Esk, Janice Dutcher (Eddie) of South Esk, Susan Sherrard (Late Byron) of Whitney, Cathy Somers (Terry) of South Esk, Helen Gibbs (Brian) of Miramichi, Betty Henderson (Late Randy) of Miramichi, Loretta McAllister of Miramichi, and Theresa McAllister of Miramichi; one brother Paul of Miramichi; brothers-in-law Brian Horsman (Muriel) of Hillsborough and Gary Horsman (Merry Lee) of Saint John; sister-in-law Marilyn Horsman; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by daughter Kailyn; sisters Mary Lawlor (Late Ned), Diane Kazamer (Late Mike), Freda Silliker (Late Blaine), and Fern Hare (Late Sandy); brothers Hubert McAllister (Late Marie) and Arthur John (“Baby John”); and brother-in-law Sherman Horsman (Marilyn).
