  • The passing of Benjamin Albert McTavish occurred at the War Veterans Wing of the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, on September 22, 2014, at the age of 91.

    Ben was born April 12, 1923 in Strathadam, son of the late Ben and Lottie (Parker) McTavish. Ben served during WWII in Italy with the 5th Division 49/T Reg 98 Battery. He was Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 90 Sunny Corner as well as Past President of the Islandview Seniors Club in Sunny Corner. He was also a past member of LOL 154 Orange Lodge and is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

    Ben is survived by his daughter Mona (Tom); son Reg (Mary); three grandchildren Karen (Robert Francis), Kenton Dunphy (Joy), and Scott MacTavish (Tammy); six great grandsons Jeremy (Alisha), Brett Francis, Ryan and Dylan Dunphy, and Dillian and Tyler MacTavish; great great granddaughters Mya and Serena Francis; sister-in-law Sadie Dunnett; cousin Claude Parker; and several nieces and nephews.

    Besides his parents, Ben is predeceased by his loving wife Carrie, brother Ralph (Veda), sisters Bertie Sherrard (Tom) and Willa Daughney (Charles), infant grandson Kelsey Ley Dunphy, and daughter-in-law Deborah (Taylor) MacTavish.

    The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014, at 11 am, from Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gillis Smith officiating. A legion service will follow the funeral service and a private family burial will take place in Boom Road Presbyterian Cemetery.

    As expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Boom Road Presbyterian Church, Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, or to a memorial of one's choice.
