  • Richard Bedford Bennett MacCallum, of Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 88.

    Born in Miramichi, he was the son of the late Stafford James and Bessie (Archibald) MacCallum. Bennett was a heavy equipment operator at the pulp mill before his retirement, and a member of Boom Road Pentecostal Church.

    He will be greatly missed by his wife Ellen (Jardine) MacCallum of Miramichi; two daughters Diane (Thomas Abraham Asoyuf) of Miramichi and Rhonda (Frank Harris) of Cassillis; two sons Richard MacCallum (Sally Brophy) of Blackville and Donald MacCallum (Tracey Lamkey) of Napan; two sisters Peggy (Eldon Steeves) and Helen (Robert Coakley); six grandchildren Kelsey Carter, Craig MacCallum, Robyn Harris, Kelli Harris, Judd Asoyuf, and Saul Asoyuf; four great grandchildren Owen, Easton, Ella and Vada; as well as several nieces and nephews.

    Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his five brothers Jim, Perce, Stafford Jr., Robert and twin brother George; and five sisters Kathleen MacCallum, Edie MacCallum, Dora Simpson, Stella Hubbard, and Shirley Wortman.

    The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Thursday, September 6, 2018, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018, at 11 am, from Boom Road Pentecostal Church, with Pastor Fred Williams officiating.

    As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, or to the Miramichi SPCA.
