Bernice Matchett

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the sudden death of our beloved mother Bernice “Bernie” Janice Matchett.

Bernice Janice Matchett (Taylor) of Sillikers passed away peacefully at Miramichi Regional Hospital, on August 17, 2023 at the age of 80. Born in Miramichi, she was the daughter of the late Robert Taylor and Beatrice (Travis).

Bernie had the biggest heart. She was an amazing wife and mother. She was married to the love of her life for 60 years. 

She worked as a tree planter/silviculturist. 

She was happiest with a house full of family and friends. She was generous and loving. 

Her passions were card playing, drives in the woods, baking, knitting, berry and fiddle head picking, game shows and trips across the boarder. 

Her house was always full of family, food, love and laughter on Sundays. She was witty and full of spice, a one of a kind. 

She will be greatly missed by her husband Robert Matchett of Sillikers; her daughters Carrie Maclvor (Keith) of South Esk, Linda Matchett of Miramichi, and Jennifer Trevors of Miramichi; her son Gene Matchett of Sillikers; her sisters Gladys Foran of Fredericton and Jean Taylor of Saint Catherines; her brother Jim Taylor of Miramichi; 7 Grandchildren Melissa, Phillip, Justin, Michael, Brooke, Bailey, and Kianna; 6 Great Grandchildren Elexis, Skylaa, Avery, Storm, Hudson, and Taliyah.

Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by twin boys Keith and Kirk; sisters Eileen and Marina; brothers Billy, Art, Max, and Peter; and granddaughter Melissa Stemm.

The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home on Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 1-1:45pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Willard Watling officiating.
