  • Surrounded by her loving family members; Mrs. Bertha (Ward) Barnaby, wife of the late Isaac Barnaby, of Eel Ground, passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2010, at the Miramichi Hospital, at the age of 93.


    Born in Eel Ground, she was the daughter of the late Alec and Annie (Sark) Ward. She was a homemaker, a member of St Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church and also a member of Eel Ground First Nation. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and the oldest person to be living in Eel Ground.


    She will be sadly missed by her two daughters Norma Blackmore of Eel Ground and Doreen Barnaby (Gord Rhindess) of Lincoln, NB; grandchildren Katherine A. Barnaby of Fredericton, NB; Max William Hogan of Monticello, Maine; Brent Rhindress (Kelly) of Burton, NB; Wendy Beck (Scott) of Riverview, NB; and Eric Barnaby of Winnipeg, MB. Bertha is also survived by her great grandchildren that she adored dearly; Ashley Lynn Beck, Sean Rhindress, Amanda Beck, Kayleigh Colford and Andrew Beck as well as her many nieces and nephews.


    Besides her parents, Bertha was predeceased by her husband Isaac Barnaby; two sons Eldon Dedam & Isaac Eric Barnaby; two infant daughters Noreen & Carmel as well as one brother Alex Ward; and two sisters Mary Nancy Dedam and Mary Ann McKay.


    The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Saturday, April 24, 2010, from 7 to 9 and on Sunday, April 25, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 26, 2010, at 10 am, from St Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church, with Father Vincent Donovan officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a memorial of one’s choice.
