We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our loving family member Murray, who passed peacefully from this earth on the evening of June 19 after his diagnosis of cancer.
Murray was born on November 10, 1954, and since that time, has brought light and joy into the lives around him. Living his lifespan in Boom Road, the love he had for his family, animals, and community were beyond compare. He was always willing to volunteer his time, and the hours and friendships that developed over the years could never be calculated!
Dad always had a smile, a joke, and a kind word for everyone. Family get togethers, outdoor adventures, camping, travelling, and hockey were a few of his favorite things. He was also the President of his own “Grampy Day Care”, where he helped look out for his Grandchildren in their younger years, and then of course, his Fur Grandbabies, Cooper, Bronco and Hunter. Right up to his final earthly time, he provided encouragement for his family and never stopped believing in us.
Murray will be forever loved and remembered by his wife of 50 years, Cathy (Matchett); his mother Catherine Sherrard; his daughter Sonya and son in law Don Matchett; daughter in law April Sherrard; grandchildren Brennan and Chloe Sherrard, and youngest grandson Brock Matchett. He will also be missed by sister Darlene Girouard (Robert) and brother Blake Sherrard (Arlene), many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters in laws.
He was predeceased by his son Ricky, Father Carl, and Grandparents Annie Mae and George Sherrard.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Health Care Professionals at Miramichi Hospital, Moncton City Hospital, and the comfort and care provided by staff at Percy’s Place.
Murray will be resting at Northumberland Funeral Home, 102 Pleasant St. Miramichi, with visiting hours on Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 2:00 until 4:00 and 7:00 until 9:00. The Funeral will be held on Monday, June 24 at 2:00 at St Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, Sunny Corner, with Pastor Tom Ettinger officiating.
As expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sunny Corner Volunteer Fire Department, St Stephen’s Presbyterian Church – Sunny Corner, Percy’s Place Miramichi, or the Miramichi SPCA would be appreciated by the family.
