Our family is saddened to announce the passing of Mary Carmel Foley of Nelson-Miramichi. She was born on November 13, 1922 and passed away November 21, 2023 after 101 years of love and laughter.
Carmel was the daughter of Timothy and Hannah (Esson) McDonnell of Douglasfield. She was predeceased by her sister Kathleen English (Adrian), and brothers John (Kad), Tim (Anne) and Edmund (Anne). She married her late husband Earl Foley of Nelson on October 19, 1949, and lived by the Miramichi River ever since. She was a person of strong faith and was a member of St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church.
Carmel was known for her warm hospitality, and was always up for a toddy! Her front porch was a hub of warmth, laughter, good company, and the best view in the world. She enjoyed playing cards, walking to the post office, baking bread and treats, and anyone that knew them, knew Earl and Carmel loved to dance!!
Carmel leaves a legacy in her 3 loving children: Kathy Sarty (late Bill), Ellen Foley (Paul) and Tim Foley (Dorothy). She was a proud grandmother to Tim Sarty (Amanda), Will Sarty, Christine (Duane) Carr, Brad Foley, and Nick Foley (Holly). Her family circle continued to expand to include nine great-grandchildren: Alexis, Tanner, Sophia, Brayden, Hannah, Ella, Liam, Ellen, and Carter, with the tenth on the way. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Marie Foley and Helene Kilger, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the EMP and those excellent nurses who were able to help keep her at home to the age of 100. Also to the staff of Losier Hall for their kindness to her and all the family these past months. To Dr. G. Losier for his excellent care as her physician for many years. Last but not least to Brenda R, Anne Marie R, Ann G, neighbours, relatives and friends who were faithful caregivers and visitors. You mean so much to all the family.
Visitation will be at Northumberland Funeral Home on Friday, November 24 from two until four in the afternoon and six until eight in the evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Patrick’s Church on Saturday, November 25 at 11:00 am with Fr Anthony Dass Papu officiating.
