It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carol Vivian (Curtis) Newman, of Bridgeview Hall, formerly of Lower Derby, NB. On, October 3, 2024, God called Carol home. She passed peacefully at Percy's Place Miramichi surrounded by family and loved ones.
Born in Gray Rapids, NB, on March 19, 1947, she was the youngest child of 10 born to Lloyd and Emily (MacDonald) Curtis.
She will be greatly missed by her loving children Preston (Karen) of Douglastown and Tanya of Renous; and her pride and joy grandchildren Zachary and Ellie both of Douglastown. Carol is also survived by two special sisters Myrna Sullivan and Ida Sullivan both of Gray Rapids; sister-in-law Audrey Matchett of Bridgeview Hall; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws Franklin and Barbara (Newman) Duthie of Miramichi and Garfield and Pauline Newman of Lower Derby; as well as several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Besides her parents, Carol is predeceased by her loving husband David; brothers Leslie, Currie, Marshall, and Lindon; sisters Edna, Beatrice, and Rachel; brothers-in-laws Roy Curtis, Irving Sullivan, Albert Curtis, Dave Jardine, Ambury Newman, and Hazen Sullivan; and sisters-in-laws Lena Curtis, Mabel Curtis, Daisy Curtis, and Vera Curtis.
Carol loved to cook, clean, and entertain. There always seemed to be someone drop by and the teapot was always on. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she would bake for weeks to prepare for the house full of company she and David would have over the holidays. Her brown bread, donuts, and chocolate cake with boiled icing were favorites among her family and friends.
Anyone that knew Carol, knew how obsessed she was with having a clean home. For many years, she was a stay at home mom, but in the late 80's she decided to go to work cleaning houses. Soon, word of mouth spread about her impeccable work ethic. She and her niece Florence began to clean more and more. For almost 30 years, they cleaned many homes and businesses throughout Miramichi, and met many great people along the way.
Carol was a member of Family Worship Centre in Nordin, NB. Her faith in God was her foundation and gospel music was an important part of her life. She loved to sing and play her guitar. On several weekends, Carol and David would have "get togethers" with gospel music, good food, and friends and neighbours would gather to fellowship.
The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 1 pm, from Family Worship Centre with Pastor Theo Craig officiating. Interment will take place in Boom Road Pentecostal Cemetery.
Thank you to the staff of Bridgeview Hall Northeast wing and a special thanks to Amanda Quinn, Kari Woodman, and Debbie McGraw. We would also like to thank the staff at Miramichi Regional Hospital, 1East, 2West, 3East, and Palliative Care. Carol was a patient on each of these units at one time or another. She was known throughout most of the hospital as "Mommy Newman".
A sincere heartfelt thank you to Doctor Gerard Losier, who was Carol's family physician for many years. Doctor Losier was by her side through her many health struggles. His love, compassion, and support both for Carol and her family will never be forgotten. To the staff and volunteers of Percy's Place - Jill Hackett (Director of care), Dr. Gerard and Judy Losier, a sincere heartfelt thank you. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel toward you all and this beautiful facility. The love, support, exceptional care, and compassion that was shown to both Carol and her whole family was beyond anything we ever imagined.
We are so thankful that Carol got to spend her last days at Percy's Place before she made her final journey to her Heavenly Home. Percy's Place allowed her to pass peacefully. To the nurses that we met, you are all "earth Angels". Thank you.
