Ed “Eddie” Russell passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Tuesday, January 31 after a prolonged illness, at the age of 64.
Ed was born in Newcastle, the son of the late Edward (Ned) Russell Sr. and Mary (Goodfellow) Russell.
He was a great great grandson of John Mercer Johnson, one of the Fathers of Confederation.
Ed grew up in Loggieville and retired to his beloved home there overlooking the beautiful Miramichi River. He had a passion for sports, primarily hockey, softball and baseball and enjoyed a long career with many teams, including UNB Varsity and Moncton Bears, the latter as a winger during their 1974-75 Hardy Cup championship; and his hometown Loggieville Bisons softball team.
Ed worked for more than twenty years for the Province of NB, as a Property Assessor at both Moncton and Miramichi offices.
He is survived by his daughter Lindsay Russell (Floyd d’Entremont) of Pointe-du-Chêne and his son Graeme Russell (Lindsay Mombourquette) of Fredericton; his brother Ian of Miramichi; the mother of his children, Joan (Dealy) Russell of Miramichi; nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, at 2:00 pm, at Northumberland Funeral Home. At the family’s request, and in keeping with Ed’s love for his rescue dog, Harlee D, memorial donations may be made to the Miramichi Branch of the SPCA or the Tim Horton’s Children’s Foundation.
