Elizabeth Irene Reid McLaughlin, wife of the late Warren Ernest McLaughlin, of Miramichi, passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at the age of 83.

Elizabeth courageously fought a 25-year battle with cancer. Her strength during this time was beyond belief, allowing her to defeat numerous odds along the way; she kept a positive attitude and carried on with her life with lots of love, humour, pound cake, and peach jam. She continued to defy her illness until the end.

Born in Loggieville, on June 30, 1933, Elizabeth was the eldest child of the late Charles Lomond and Marion Eliza (Walsh) Lockerbie of Loggieville. She graduated from Saint Michael’s Academy in 1950 from the Commercial Course and began her career at the Royal Bank in Moncton. She continued her career as a Bookkeeper, working at Newcastle businesses Morris Wholesale, Pete White’s Stationery, Homestead Furniture, White’s Pharmacy, and again at Morris Wholesale where she stayed until her retirement in 1998.

In addition to her full-time career, Elizabeth had a hobby ceramic business, “Elizabeth’s Ceramics” that she and Warren enjoyed for many years. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, where she volunteered much of her time, and also a Telephone Pioneer Partner.

She will be greatly missed by her son, Bill McLaughlin (Linda), of Miramichi; daughter, Gail McLaughlin Aubé (Louis Aubé), of Dieppe; brothers: John Lockerbie (Ethel) and Jim Lockerbie (Barbara), both of Miramichi; sister, Sharon Walsh (Dave), of Miramichi; five grandchildren: Kelly McLaughlin (Jeremy Walsh), John McLaughlin (Alicia Hayes-McLaughlin), Tim McLaughlin (Geneva McSheffery), Erica Aubé, and Kevin Aubé; two great-grandchildren: Dylan McLaughlin and Eve McLaughlin; as well as her sisters-in-law: Grace McLaughlin and Phyllis McLaughlin; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased 22 days prior by her loving husband of 61 years, Warren. She was also predeceased by her infant sister, Agnes, as well as her brother-in-law, Ken McLaughlin.

The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, from 2pm to 4 pm and 7pm to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at 2 pm, from St Andrew's Anglican Church, with Rev. Thomas Nisbett officiating.
