Ethel Lydia (Polley) Murphy, of Miramichi, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 95.
Born in Clones, NB, she was the daughter of the late Harry G. and Elsie (Reader) Polley. She was a homemaker, avid reader, ambitious cook, talented at needlework, quilting, and knitting. She never missed Coronation Street, and was a Royals enthusiast.
She loved to walk in the woods, always carrying a plastic bag in her pocket in case she stumbled upon a berry patch, or anything else she could turn into jelly when she got home, and a big stick.
She was a gardener. Even at 94 she tended to her gardens, both vegetable and flower, weeding, saving seeds, drying flowers, and preserving her harvest.
On a nice day, she could usually be found sitting out in the carport with a cup of tea(lots of milk).
She will be greatly missed by her three children Linda Roy (Ron) of Vernon, BC, John Murphy (Sylvia) of Miramichi, and George Murphy of Fort McMurray, AB; one brother Walter Polley (Greta) of Sussex; nine grandchildren Cathy Roy (Will), Greg Roy (Carly), Michael Quinn (Sylvia), Sean Quinn (Danielle), and Stephen Quinn (Cathy); Kelly St-Onge (Denis), Matthew Murphy (Kaye- Lani), Brian Murphy, and Alexandra Murphy; seventeen great grandchildren (Max, Rowan, Sam, Gavin, Katie, Sarah, Elizabeth, Daniel, Maureen, Jayden, Caley, Harrison, Riley, Adria, Willoughby, Sophia, Jackson),and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Arthur Murphy; and three brothers Charlie Polley (Late Marion), Bill Polley (Late Jean), and Spencer Polley; and grandson Beau Quinn.
The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home on Thursday, October 20, 2022, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm.
