The death occured peacefully, at the Miramichi Seniors Home on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 of Evan Rowland Crocker in his 96th year. Born in Newcastle on May 30, 1916, he was the son of the late Rita (ne Elliott) and Waldo Crocker. A loving husband, terrific father, and respected businessman; he is survived by his children Dr. David (Donna) Crocker, Alberton, P.E.I.; Dr. Jane (Jacquie) Crocker-Nayar, Montreal, Que.; and Elspeth (Bob) Horwitz, Rehovot, Israel; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his loving wife of 42 years Martha I. (Earle), brother Graham (Muriel) Crocker; Sister Mary (Bill) Peters, twin sister Rosamond Crocker and grandson Jason.
After serving with the RCAF during the second world war, Rowland returned to the Miramichi to work in the family business where he managed Crocker’s Men’s and Boy’s Wear until his retirement in 1983. During those years he served on the Newcastle town council and served two terms as mayor. He was a charter member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10 and was a past master of Northumberland Lodge No.17
Rowland’s love of music was evident in the time he spent in barbershop quartets, Miramichi Choral Society productions, church choirs, and most recently as a member of The Men of Harmony.
Bub, as he was affectional known to many, was an avid walker, swimmer, golfer and curler. He served on many local boards and was a member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church.
Resting at Northumberland Funeral Home, Miramichi, on Friday, March 9, 2012, from 1 to 5 pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 10 am, from St Andrew's Anglican Church, with Rev. Richard Steeves officiating. Interment will take place in the Miramichi Cemetery at a later date.
Please note, members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10 are asked to meet at the funeral home on Friday for a legion service at 3 pm, and the Northumberland Lodge No. 17 F & AM are asked to meet at the funeral home for a masonic service at 4 pm.
