Evelyn Rosamond Crocker, of Miramichi, passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, on July 3rd, 2010, at the age of 94.
Born in Newcastle, she was the daughter of the late R. Waldo and Rita May (Elliott) Crocker. She graduated from Mount Allison University in 1939 and also from the Margaret Eaton School of Physical Education, in Toronto. She joined the RCAF in 1941 and was one of the original, from the class of 150, to be in the first administration course to be organized. Ranking Senior Administration Officer of W.S.’s, and with duties of Squadron Leader, she was discharged with the rank of Flight Officer (Flight Lieutenant).
In 1946, she was appointed Physical Director of University Women of Mount Allison where she held that position for 10 years. In 1956, she returned to Newcastle and worked in the family business, T.W. Crockers Company.
Evelyn Rosamond was a sports enthusiast, curler, and lover of the outdoors. She was very involved with community service and was a friend to all. She was active in Red Cross, VON, St Andrew’s Anglican Guild, Cancer Society, and many more charitable organizations. She was the 125th Canadian to receive the Medal of Volunteerism and Citizen of the Year. She has received many honours from the town of Newcastle, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10.
She is survived by her beloved twin brother Evan Rowland Crocker; seven nieces and nephews; and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Mary Elliott Peters, brother Harold Graham Crocker, sister-in-laws Muriel (Cross) Crocker and Martha I (Earle) Crocker, and one brother-in-law W. (Bill) Peters.
The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2010, from St Andrew’s Anglican Church, at 11 am, with Reverend Steeves officiating. Interment will take place in the Miramichi Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Red Cross or to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
