It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Hubert Joseph Barnaby-Patles, 75, of Eel Ground First Nation on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital.

He was the husband to the late Lillian Jeannie (Morrison) Patles. Hubert was born in Eel Ground on March 26, 1942, a dear son of the late Rita (Patles) Staffier and the late Hubert W. Barnaby, Eel Ground and the beloved grandson of the late William and Mary Jane (Ginnish) Barnaby.


Hubert was an avid hunter, fishermen, and woodmen by trade.


Hubert is survived by two sisters, Leona Francis, and Carolyn (Peter) Murphy both of Eel Ground; one brother, Regional Chief Roger J. (Lois) Augustine, Eel Ground; Godson, Galen (Lori) Augustine, also from Eel Ground. Hubert is also survived by an aunt, Mary (George) Ginnish, two stepchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his wife Lillian; Hubert was predeceased by two brothers, Alvin and Bruce Barnaby.


The family will receive relatives and friends at Northumberland Funeral Home, on Monday, October 9, 2017, from 2 - 4 pm and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at 11 am at Saint Joachim's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Antonio Reyes officiating.


As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or to the memorial of one's choice.
