It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James B. McKinnon of Moncton (formerly of Miramichi) at the Moncton City Hospital on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the age of 84. James was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.
James was predeceased by his parents, Colin and Stella (Power) McKinnon, his brothers Reginald and Charles (Helene) McKinnon of Miramichi and his daughter, Carolyn.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years Elaine (Smith) McKinnon, his son, Mark (Tracey) of Ottawa, his daughter, Maura and his grandchildren Alyson and Sean Bryant of Moncton. He is also survived by his brother Aloysius (Eileen) McKinnon of Miramichi and his sisters, Frances Poirier and Helene (Rod) Violette of California.
James, a graduate of Forestery School, was retired from the Provincial Department of Natural Resources. In his younger days, he was a well-respected hockey coach and a member of the Newcastle Knights of Columbus. Before moving to Moncton four years ago, he and his wife were active members of the Newcastle Senior Citizens' Club.
James will be resting at Northumberland Funeral Home, Miramichi, with viewing Wednesday from 7 - 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Samuel's Roman Catholic Church, in Douglastown, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013, with Father Maurice Swift officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local SPCA.
