Janice Leigh (Curtis) Miner, of Saint John, passed away lovingly surrounded by her family, on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, at the age of 64.
Born in Blackville, NB, she was the daughter of the late Murray and Mable (Grady) Curtis. Janice was never one to settle back and let life pass her by. Once her role of stay at home mom neared to an end, she enrolled in a heavy equipment operator course at NBCC. All while being heavily involved in school activities, Sunday school teacher for the United Church of Canada, a Girl Guide leader, Saint John Ambulance Volunteer and leader in the Duke of Edinburgh award program which had her dining and chatting with Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex. Still feeling like she had more to accomplish she went to the Atlantic Business College and studied small business management which led her to a career in retail management. She longed to see the north so then accepted a manager position for the Northwest Company in Inuvik, NWT and later Fort Simpson, NWT where she stayed until her health would no longer allow. She returned to Saint John where she started her most rewarding career of grandmother. Janice, aka Memesy could be seen at every event her beloved grandchildren attended from music recitals, to football fields to warm rinks for ball hockey and lacrosse to cold rinks for hockey. She was always the one in the stands with a smile, loud cheer and proud look for Mckenzie, Chase and Riley. Janice also found the good in everything, she loved to sing, dance and laugh with abandon.
She will be greatly missed by her two daughters Charity (Serge) and Candice both of Saint John; her sister Marsha Duffy (John) of Blackville; her brothers Grady (Sue) of Musquash, and Jeff (Janet) of Doaktown; sister in law Donna Curtis of Miramichi; grandchildren McKenzie, Riley, Chase and Randy as well as several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. She will be also fondly missed by her ex-husband Harold Miner (Dawn) and the rest of the Miner family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her three brothers Hallam, Larke and Gary, and three sisters Lynn, Sandra, and Susan.
Visitation will take place at St Andrew's United Church Hall, Blackville, on Friday, July 17, 2020, from 1 pm to 1:45 pm. A celebration of Life will follow at 2 pm with Rev. Paul McGrattan officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery following the service.
