Jessie Merica McAllister, wife of the late Lorne McAllister, of Miramichi, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on November 30th, 2022 at the age of 91.
Born in Boom Road, NB on January 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Mary (McAllister) Mullin.
After graduating from Boom Road Superior School, she worked at Eaton’s in Moncton. In later years, she was employed at Royal Bank, Newcastle until she moved to Moncton where she worked for many years at the Beacon Light Motel as a desk clerk. She attended Boom Road Pentecostal Church.
Jessie loved to bake and her friends will be missing her cans of Christmas cookies this year. Frank and his family will be missing the chocolate cakes and butterscotch and lemon pies.
Jessie was known for her style and was often complimented. Even in later years, whether going to a social function or just grocery shopping, in spite of advanced Macular Degeneration, she stepped out with a fully coordinated outfit (often including little red boots) and tastefully applied make-up. Often Grace and Kim’s sister Gert would joke that they should walk two steps behind.
Jessie is survived by her daughter Grace Lawlor (late Kim) of Sunny Corner and grandson Frank (Danielle) of South Esk. Great Grammy Jessie also leaves behind two special great grandchildren Ryan and Emma. She is also survived by her sister Mabel McGuire and her brother Paul (Margaret), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Lorne, Jessie is predeceased by sisters Nelda Mullin and Vera Porter, brothers Wilson, Dan and Elwin and son-in-law Kim Lawlor.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 3 pm, at Boom Road Pentecostal Church, with Pastor Jody Holmes officiating. Interment will take place in Boom Road Presbyterian Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy in Jessie’s memory, donations to Miramichi SPCA or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
A very special thank-you to Pastor Tom Ettinger for prayers during her stay in the hospital and to all those who reached out to provide support to Mom.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Northumberland Funeral Home & Crematorium, 102 Pleasant St, telephone (506) 622-7741. Where your loved one never leaves our care.
