Joan Delphine (Dunn) Smith, of Miramichi, passed away at her residence on Sunday, October 20, 2013, at the age of 85.
Born April 26, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Wilmore and Leola (Sutherland) Dunn and worked as a business woman and a homemaker.
She will be sadly missed by her husband Sterling Smith, of Miramichi; three daughters Cheryl (Carlo China) of Sault Ste Marie, ON, Holly Smith of Miramichi, and Joy (Nav Mehta) of Sudbury, ON; two sons Terry Smith (Roxanne) and Todd Smith both of Miramichi; four sisters Carmel Mahoney of Miramichi, Bonnie Parks of Miramichi, Shirley Estey of Sevogle, and Monica Buckle of Kitchener, ON; seven grandchildren Stephanie China Honig, Troy Smith, Matthew China, Candace Arsenault-MacDonald, Jordan Schenkels, Raj Mehta, and Jasmine Mehta; seven great grandchildren Sarah Smith, Sean Smith, Shanley Smith, Sienna Honig, Lilla Honig, Aaliyah Schenkels-Daley, and Arlo China; and several nieces and nephews. Joan is also remembered by her husband’s family; Burton Smith (Bernie)of Miramichi, Gloria Johnstone of Red Bank; June (Donald MacTavish) of Halcomb, Paul Johnstone, Robert Smith of Whitneyville, Garnet Johnson, Lucy (George Rice) of Hamilton, ON, Faye (Edward Gilks) of South Esk; and Delbert Smith (Faye) of Millerton.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by an infant daughter, one son Jimmy, two sisters Leola Dutka and Rosemary Slavik; three brothers Lawrence Dunn, Jim Dunn, and Martin Dunn; one granddaughter Jenness Smith; eight brother-in-laws Lawrence Mahoney, Gordon Parks, Clayton Estey, Tom Buckle, Leo Slavtk, John (Jack) Smith, Frank Smith, and Barton Johnstone; and five sister-in-laws Beverly Smith, Joan Smith, Marina Smith, Margaret Johnstone, and Diane Johnson.
The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Thursday, October 24, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013, at 11 am, from Holy Trinity Anglican Church, in Blackville, with Father Laskey officiating.
