John Winston Foran

John Winston Foran, of Miramichi, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the age of 71.

Born in Newcastle, he was the son of Winifred (Wood) Foran and the late Winston Foran. He served as Chief of the Chatham Town Police and retired from the Miramichi Police Force as Superintendent. John spent many years serving his community – he was elected to both town and city council, eventually becoming MLA for the Miramichi area where he was appointed Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General. Under his leadership and guidance, he created the Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement unit which exists to this day.

He was a member of St Mary's Roman Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Father Dixon Council #4886 .

He will be greatly missed by his wife Patty (Ullock) of Miramichi; daughter Lori Foran of Lower Sackville, NS; two sons - Eric Foran of Red Deer, AB and Mark Foran (Lacy McGrath) of Calgary, AB; four sisters - Janice Desrosiers, Teresa (Gordon Baisley), Deanne (Keith Tucker), and Karen (David Mitchell), all of Miramichi; three brothers - Frank Foran (Darlene) and Winston of Miramichi, and Randy Foran (Jackie) of Calgary, AB; sister-in-laws Lesley Foran, Pam MacDonald, Heather Russell; brothers-in-law Paul Ullock (Brenda); Harry Ullock (Sharon), and Burt Ullock (Betty); two grandchildren Brendan Tozer-Foran and Lilliana Faith Foran; and countless nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, he was predeceased by his brother Barry Foran, sister Sheila Murphy and brothers-in-law Jean Desrosiers, Raymond Russell and Peter Murphy.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Northumberland Funeral Home, on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 10 AM, at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Cornelius Ngurukwen officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery.
