Joseph Michael Wallace “Wally” Duguay, born on July 17, 1966, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 18, 2023, in Miramichi at the age of 57. Born in Bowmanville, Ontario, and raised in South Nelson, New Brunswick, he was the son of Rolande (Hebert) and the late Joseph Duguay.
Wally was a carpenter by trade and worked as a part of local construction crews, at the mill in Blackville, in the oil fields in Alberta, and most recently at the Atlantic Institution. Wally spent as much time as possible with both his family by birth and by marriage, eventually becoming a treasured “out-law” of the Tuckers. He would often pop in for a visit for what seemed like no reason at all, but the Tim Hortons coffee he’d bring you was a clear indication you’d been on his mind for a bit.
Wally was known as many things — an incredible musician, a great cook, a Christmas decoration crafter, a dedicated fisherman, and a general jack of all trades. He found great joy in helping out those who needed it and even more in teaching people how to do new things. He always had the utmost confidence that you could do something, and that really made you believe that you could.
Wally was proud to have taught almost all of his nieces and nephews how to drive, and perhaps his only regret in life will be that more of the important children in his life did not reach the appropriate age (whenever you are tall enough to reach the pedals and see over the dash) to learn from him before his passing.
He was also very proud to have built by hand the house his daughter grew up in, and it is with great sadness that his family realizes he will not be around to build a home for his future grandchildren to grow up in or his sister-in-law to continue her retirement in as they had all planned together.
Besides his mother, Wally is survived by his beloved daughter Nicole (Kris) of Pineville and her mother Daphne; sister Michelle and brother Tony (Cathy) of Miramichi; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends, and jam buddies. He was predeceased by his brother Gary.
