Joyce Eunice Stewart Belk passed away, peacefully on Friday, August 26, 2022 just 3 days shy of her 97th birthday, at Losier Hall in Miramichi, NB. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family. She is survived by her daughter by choice, Joan Coughlan of Blackville, NB and Joan’s sons and grandsons who considered her to be their grandmother and great grandmother, along with several nieces and nephews.

Joyce was born on August 29th, 1925 to Violet and Irving Myles Stewart in Quarryville, NB.

At the age of 26 years old she met the love of her life, Robert, whom she lovingly called “Lavi”. Robert Belk had visited Quarryville, NB from the US state of Kentucky where he met Joyce. They were married in 1953 and lived several years in Pekin, Illinois.

In 1966, they moved to Quarryville and shared many happy years together in their home by the river.

Although they never had children of their own, Joan, the daughter of their heart came into their lives when God saw that they were needed for each other.

Later in life, Joyce, living alone, after the death of Robert, became the neighborhood cat rescuer. To her they were not just cats, they were her babies and she fed hundreds of stray cats throughout the remainder of her days at her beloved home in Quarryville.

Joyce will fondly be remembered by her surviving family members as one of the most generous, humble, loving and kind individuals to ever walk the face of the earth!

We will miss her beautiful smile and that little wave as you drove away from her house where she stood on the step and watched until you were out of sight. We will also miss her faithful prayers of safety and blessings that she prayed over the family that she loved so much!

Rest in peace, dear, sweet Joyce!

The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, from 1 pm to 2 pm. The funeral service will follow at 2 pm with Rev. John Stewart officiating. Interment will take place in St Mark’s Cemetery, Quarryville.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Miramichi SPCA.
