Lawrence was the loving husband of Agnes (nee Black), his high school sweetheart, with whom he would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on August 1, 2022.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Agnes; four children, Greg (Darlene) of Moncton, NB, Alan (Karen), John (Linda) and Margo (Peter Veriker) all of Miramichi, NB; ten wonderful grandchildren, Greg Jr, Chris, and Carolyn, Timothy, Jennifer, and Stephanie, Michael and Sheryl, Tyler and Robbie; fifteen amazing great grandchildren: two beautiful great, great grandchildren; and sister, Phyllis McCafferty (late James) of Lower Sackville, NS.

Lawrence was predeceased by brother, James (Jimmy) Stevens, sister-in-law Joan Stevens, and great grandson Brandon Stevens.

Lawrence was a retired entrepreneur having owned and operated Central Service Station and Homestead Furniture Ltd., both located in the former Newcastle.

Lawrence served as councillor on Newcastle Town Council and also served on the Board of New Brunswick Medicare for 25 years.

Lawrence had great interest in local, provincial and national politics, enjoyed curling, boating and especially loved wintering in Florida. Lawrence’s greatest joy was time spent with family at his beloved cottage on the Miramichi River.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mah, Dr. Saba and the Emergency room nurses at Region 7 Hospital Authority for the excellent care Lawrence received. Also, a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Shannex and Bridgeview for the extraordinary compassion and care shown to our family. To Jackie, Nora, Lisa, Donna, Jean and Steve, you each have a special place in our hearts and we will be forever grateful to you.

As per Lawrence’s request, a graveside service will be held at 1 o’clock on the afternoon of August 2, 2022, at Miramichi Cemetery, Old King George Hwy., officiated by Pastor Kevin Matthews.
