It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Lawrence “Lornie” Walsh, aged 72, on July 9, 2024 while on his way home from visiting family out west. Lornie was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather whose loss is deeply felt by his family and all that knew him.
Lornie was widely known around town, especially for the years he spent running a local arcade and pool hallalong with his little body shop in the old Stothart building. Lornie was also a staple figure at the Enclosure Campground where he spent many summers working the grounds. His mischievous smile, infectious laugh, and always friendly demeanor made him a favorite among everyone who knew him. Always a bit of a torment in the most endearing way, Lornie brought joy and laughter wherever he went.
A true Jack of all trades, Lornie had an extraordinary talent for fixing cars and could find a solution to just about anything. His mechanical expertise and willingness to help anyone in need earned him a reputation as the go-to handyman. No problem was too big or small for Lornie to tackle.
Lornie was a familiar face at both the Kingsway and Welcome Back restaurants, where he could always be found sharing stories, laughter, and good times with friends and family. His warm personality and generous spirit made him a beloved figure in these local gathering spots.
In addition to his passion for cars, Lornie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: a good cup of coffee, tinkering in his garage, and spending time with his family. Lornie loved strumming his guitar at family gathering and entertaining everyone. He passed this passion on to his grandson, Andy, after he bought him his first guitar to learn to play on. His legacy of resilience and love will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Lornie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cathy (nee Ross), and their cherished daughter, Jackie. Their passing left a void in his heart that he carried with quiet strength. He is also predeceased by his parents Weldon and Rita Walsh, and by brothers Paul and Elmer.
