Lois Edna (Astle) Corney, of Blackville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, April 22, 2022, at the age of 87.
Born in Quarryville, she was the daughter of the late James and Amby (Clark) Astle. She worked as an accounting clerk and was a member of St Andrew's United Church. She spent much of her time volunteering, and was a member of the U.C.W., C.G.I.T, Women's Institute, Blackville Board of Trade Miss NB Forestry Queen Pageant, Lead Canvasser for the Canadian Cancer Society, Walls Family Reunion Committee, Board of Stewarts for St. Andrew’s United Church and many other committees. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Breakfast Program at the Blackville School to name a few. She drove her friends to medical appointments and social events including senior dances and local card parties, which she throughly enjoyed attending. Her contributions to her community spanned over 65 years.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters Amber McCormack (Jack) of Blackville, and Rose Marie Cooper (Tony) of Wheatley River, PE; her son Brent Corney (Susan) of Blackville; her sister Ruth Hambrook of Parkland on the River; two brothers Merton Astle (Hulda) of Gray Rapids and Wayne Astle of Parkland on the River; sister-in-law Grace Astle of Quarryville; eight grandchildren Kathy McCormack-Malcher (Kim), Nancy McCormack (Jason), John McCormack, Robert Ginson (Sarah), Sarah Ginson (Derek), Candace Silliker (Colin), Paige Corney, and Stephen Cooper; 14 great grandchildren Tyana, Noah, Karter, Quinn, Addy, Landon, Destiny, J.P., Max, Miley, Bennett, Rayah, Blaire, and Hayes; several nieces and nephews; and her special dog Rudy.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Hubert Corney; granddaughter Kerri Lynn Chambers; two brothers Hiram Astle and Ivan Astle; one sister Vinie Elliott; and two brothers-in-law Markie Hambrook and Jack Elliott.
The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home on Monday, April 25 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 26 at 2 pm, from St Andrew's United Church, in Blackville, N.B. with Rev. Holly Lynn Hagerman officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery following the service. All are welcome to attend a reception at the Blackville United Church Hall hosted by the United Church Women.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the ALS Society in memory of her granddaughter Kerri Lynn Chambers.
