Lyman Andrew Cortes, of Millerton, husband of the late Joyce (Jennings) Cortes, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 73.

Born in Williamstown, he was the son of the late Frank and Georgina (Williston) Cortes. Lyman moved to Toronto, Ontario, at a young age, where he met and married Joyce. He worked as a die maker and had many other part-time jobs before becoming the owner of Haggard Roofing. He was an avid horse shoe player and loved camping, boating, fishing, four wheeling, and being in the outdoors. He retired to Millerton, in 2001, where he bought the home his former brother Bill owned. Lyman was a member of Derby United Church.

He will be sadly missed by his two sons Christopher (Julie) and Gregory (Betty), both of Ontario; four sisters Audrey Saunders of Millerton, Blanche Roberts of Kingston, Alice Connors (Delbert) of Millerton, and Connie Hamilton (Jack) of Ottawa, ON; a special friend Precille Dionne; four grandchildren Kirsten O’Keefe, Andrew Cortes, Melissa Cortes, and Katelyn Cortes; two great granddaughters Mackenzie O’Keefe, and Maysen Forrester; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, and wife, he was predeceased by his twin sister Helen Roberta; one sister Mary Evans; two brothers Bill and Walter; and infant brother Winston.

The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, from Williamstown United Church, at 2 pm, with Reverend Ross Wiseman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

As expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Extra Mural, Williamstown United Church, or to a memorial of one's choice.
