Lyman Joseph Hallihan, of Wayerton, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully with family at his side, on March 6, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born at home, in Grainfield, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Edward and Lillian (Buggie) Hallihan. Lyman spent his early years in Grainfield and in 1965, he moved to Ontario where he met his future wife, Marilyn. They married in 1967 and raised two children, Kelly and Jason there. After Marilyn's passing, Ontario remained his home until meeting Irene through his sister Catherine. In 2008, he moved back to New Brunswick and married Irene. He spent the last 16 years in Wayerton with Irene and her family.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Marilyn (McKinley) Hallihan (1991) and his second wife, Irene Baisley Hallihan (2024). He will be greatly missed by his children; daughter Kelly Smith (Brad) of Sutton West, ON; son Jason Hallihan (Kathy) of Sundridge, ON; two stepdaughters Trudy Baisley of Trout Brook, NB, and Gloria Baisley (Rickey Lynch) of Miramichi, NB; five stepsons George Baisley (Michelle) of Wayerton, NB, Greg Baisley (Wendy) of Grand Prairie, AB, Gordon Baisley (Teresa) of Miramichi, NB, Geoff Baisley (Paula) of Trout Brook, NB, and Gary Baisley (Faye) of Miramichi, NB. Cherished grandfather to Sydney, Breanna, Alison, and Lyla and great grandfather to Carter, as well as grandfather to many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Lyman grew up in a big family with four brothers and three sisters. He is predeceased by his brothers, Aloysius Hallihan and Willis Hallihan. His other brothers are Alvin Hallihan (Debbie) of Toronto, ON and Eddie Hallihan (Madeline) of Hillsburgh, ON. Sisters are Catherine Waye (Late Gary) of Trout Brook, NB, Patsy Pleadwell (Bev) of Rothesay, NB and Mary Ann Jardine (Late Lee) of Renous, NB.
Lyman will be missed by many nieces and nephews as well as many friends and extended family in Ontario and New Brunswick.
The family would like to acknowledge the caring and supportive staff at Miramichi Regional Hospital, namely Dr. Kpogo, Dr. Slorach, and the Palliative Care nursing team for their compassion and caring shown to our dad.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Northumberland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 102 Pleasant St, Miramichi, NB on Thursday March 13th, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral will be held at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 1675 Northwest Road, Sevogle, New Brunswick, E9E 1M5, on Friday March 14, 2025 , at 11 a.m. with Father Peter Igwe officiating. Burial to take place at a later date at St. Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church, Renous, New Brunswick, next to his wife, Marilyn.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St Bridget's Roman Catholic Cemetery, or to a memorial of one's choice.
