Marcia Ruth Schofield

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our mother, Marcia Ruth Schofield, wife of the late Emerson Schofield (July 2018) of Miramichi, NB, on June 14, 2023, at the age of 91.

Mom was born on October 5, 1931 in Springhill, NS, eldest daughter of the late Robert and Laura (Burton) Howard.

Mom is survived by her four children, daughters Tanya Underhill (Paul), Megan Hudgins (Kevin), Carey Jane and son Robert (Barb) all of Miramichi, NB; grandchildren Jeremy Underhill (Tamara) of Miramichi, NB, Josh Underhill (Elizabeth) of Fredericton, NB, Alisha Thompson of Calgary, AB, Colin Hudgins of Burnaby, BC, and Spencer Schofield of Miramichi, NB; great grandchildren Sophie, James, Mary, and Navy; sister Clara Miller of Springhill, NS; sisters-in-law Betty Anne Gurney of Paris, ON and Ethel Schofield of Miramichi, NB; and several nieces and nephews.

Mom is predeceased by her parents, her husband, and brothers Jack and Robert.

Mom devoted her life to raising her family and nurturing us with love, delicious home cooked meals, desserts and favorite after school treats.

Mom's artistic flare for style, home decor and fashion was ahead of the times.  

Mom was always strengthening her faith by being active in the following ministries: catechism teacher, the Alleluia Prayer Group, the CWL, and Pastoral Care at Saint Michael's Basilica and the Miramichi Regional Hospital.

Mom's favourite pastimes were reading, cooking, and curling. She was a beautiful seamstress and a gifted artist whose paintings are treasured by family and friends.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Gerard Losier and Dr. Yves Thibeault for the excellent care she received for many years.

We would like to acknowledge a special thank you to all the nurses, staff, and Dr. Kris at Bridgeview Hall, for their incredible compassion, patience, and love for Mom which was extended to us.

As expressions of sympathy, in Marcia's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Saint Michael's Basilica Renovation Fund, and the Dr. Gerard and Judy Losier Foundation, or to a charity of one's choice.

There will be no visitation.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Michael's Basilica on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 11 am, with Father Dan Bastarache. Interment will follow in Saint Michael's Basilica Cemetery.
