Marion Elizabeth (Geldart) Barrieau, wife of the late George Barrieau of Douglasfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Bridgeview Hall, at the age of 78.
Born in Petitcodiac, NB, she was the daughter of the late Vaughan and Jessie (Duncan) Geldart of Salisbury (Lewis Mountain). She was a schoolteacher for 35 years and a member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Miramichi Retired Teachers’ Association and a longtime volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Marion will be sadly missed by her four daughters, Mary Ann of Miramichi, Ellen Waye (Blake) of Trout Brook, Patricia (Patti) Breaker of Maces Bay, NB, and Margaret (Peggy) of Miramichi; sister Margaret (Peggy) Leblanc (Gary) of Moncton; four brothers, Alden (Margaret) of Salisbury, Jim (Krys) of British Columbia, Joe of Salisbury, and Bob (Pam) of Kitchener, ON; three grandchildren, Lindsay (Terry Lynch), Ryan, and Benjamin Waye; and great grandson Wyatt Lynch. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Ed Amyot of Quebec, and Ron (Cheryl), Pete (Barb), Gerry (Barb), and Edward (Helen) Barrieau, Pat Butler and Stoney (Edmund) Malley, all of Miramichi; sisters-in-law Nancy (Ken) McIntosh, Pam (Tony) Layton, and Cathy (Paul) Hamilton, all of Miramichi; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by infant son Paul; sisters Ruth Amyot and Dorothy Walker; brothers Alan and John; nephews Shawn LeBlanc and Kevin Geldart; parents-in-law Gladys (Donovan) and Peter Barrieau; and sisters-in-law Pat Geldart, Julianna (Richard) Barrieau, Jan (Barrieau) Malley, and Anne (Barrieau) Butler.
The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home on Monday, April 11, 2022, from 6 to 8 pm, and on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 11 am, from Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Anthony Dass Papu officiating. Interment will take place in St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the CMHA, the Miramichi Oncology Clinic, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association, or any memorial of one’s choice.
