It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Christine Watling announces her passing after a brief illness on Sunday, June 7 at the age of 87.

Born in Renous, N.B. on November 3, 1932, she was the eldest daughter of the late Herman and Frances (Murphy) Donovan.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Gib of 63 years, her children Greg (Donna)of Miramichi, Sue Roberts (Steve) of Tantallon N.S., and David (Colleen) of Miramichi. She dearly loved and was so proud of her grandchildren Erin Despres (Yves) of Fredericton , Eric Watling (Jessica) of Miramichi, Emily Roberts of Lunenburg N.S. and her great grand-daughter Neve Despres of Fredericton. She is also survived by her sister Jeanne Kemp (Earl) of Spruce Grove, Alberta, brothers Bernie Donovan (Shirley) of Miramichi and Frank Donovan (Alice) of Ingersoll, Ontario and many nieces, nephews and cousins. There was a special place in her heart and home for her step-daughter Debbie Walsh (Eldon) and family.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Noreen and her brothers Jim, Bill, Pat and nephew Randy.

She was a graduate of St. Thomas University with a BSc in Nursing and was a respected, dedicated and compassionate nurse at the Miramichi Hospital for almost 40 years.

Mary was an active member of the Retired Nurses Association and the Newcastle Kinnettes. She was very creative and her hands were never idle. Whether it was knitting, crafting, or gardening, she always had a project on the go for someone. She was the matriarch of the family, always welcoming others to her home and cottage. She loved boating, the beach, campfires and sing-songs. She was a friend and mentor to many.

The family would also like to thank Bev and the Extra Mural staff for their care the past several months.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at 11 am, from St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, with Father John Keoughan officiating. Please note, masks are mandatory and social distancing guidelines will be followed. A private internment will take place following the funeral service in Miramichi Cemetery.
