It is with the deepest sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, Matthew Edward (Cowan) West, on February 5th, 2005, at the age of 31. This unexpected loss leaves a profound void in our lives, and we are heartbroken as we remember the joy he brought to all who knew him.
Matt was not just a son; he was a cherished grandson, a caring nephew, a devoted cousin, and a steadfast friend. His ability to connect with people was remarkable, and he had a unique talent for making everyone feel special. Whether through a warm smile, a heartfelt conversation, or his infectious laughter, Matt had a way of lighting up any room he entered.
Family meant everything to Matt. He treasured the moments spent with his loved ones, whether it was a simple gathering, a holiday celebration, or an impromptu get-together. His playful sense of humor and love for sharing jokes made him a joy to be around, and his friends and family will forever remember his contagious laughter.
Matt was known for his immense kindness and generosity. He had the biggest heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether it was a friend facing difficult times or a stranger in distress, Matt would give the shirt off his back without hesitation. His selflessness and compassion inspired those around him and served as a reminder of the importance of kindness in our everyday lives.
Born in Chatham on July 21st, 1993, Matt was the son of Colleen and John Murdock. He grew up surrounded by a loving family that nurtured his spirit and supported his dreams. As he navigated through life, he touched the hearts of many, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother Ruby Taylor (Stan), step grandmother, Carolle Cowan and many devoted aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him dearly. Each of them had their own special bond with Matt, and he will forever hold a cherished place in their hearts.
Matt’s passing has left us all in shock and mourning, but we are comforted by the countless memories we shared with him. As we celebrate his life, we invite everyone who knew and loved him to join us in remembering the joy he brought into our lives. Let us honor him by embodying the love, laughter, and kindness he so freely gave to others.
Matt is predeceased by maternal grandfather, Gordan (Red) Cowan: grandmother, Hazel Barton; step grandparents Robert Murdock and Corinne Murdock.
At the family's request, there will be no visitation. A celebration of Matt's life will be held at a later date.
