Michael passed at his residence in Edmonton, AB, on 2 December 2023. He had turned 57 years old on 23 March.
Michael was born in Chatham-Miramichi to Maura (Barry) McCluskey and the late Patrick McCluskey. Michael was the younger brother of Tim (Fredericton) and Kathleen (Miramichi). He was a proud uncle to Catherine McCluskey (Halifax) and Barry McCluskey (Toronto). He and Kathleen were Godparents to Catherine.
He grew up in a fantastic neighbourhood and if he wasn't making full use of the ball fields and arenas, that's where he was found. He was a dedicated friend and co-conspirator with his core group of friends. He was a skilled athlete and a supportive teammate on the diamond and ice. Michael was a wonderful part of our family. His sense of humour, mischievous personality, and infectious laugh were always welcome.
Our uncle and aunt, Paul and Shirley Barry, and their sons Edward, Brian, Paul, and Kevin - our four "Barry Boys" cousins, were special. While in Alberta, his cousin Kevin, was essential in providing supportive contact with the family. He always enjoyed time and laughter with our McCluskey aunts, Sr. Mavis and Grace, and uncle, Vaughan.
His relationship with his maternal grandmother, Charlotte "Lottie" (McWilliam) Barry, was always cherished and Michael's visits to her home were frequent.
"Mike" was educated in Chatham-Miramichi and graduated from James M. Hill Memorial High School in 1984. He loved to get his hands into his work, but especially creative woodworking and mechanical hobbies. So, attending NBCC for Industrial Mechanics and eventually obtaining his Millwright certification made great sense for him.
He worked, married, and made a life on the Miramichi until 2004, when he made his way out west to Alberta. He worked where he could find employment until physical disability and illness prevented it. While out west, Michael made a few trips to Kamloops, BC, where Tim, Anne, Cat, and Barry lived at the time. His final trip to Kamloops was in 2009 when Cat graduated from high school. Mum and Kathleen were there for the celebrations and the time together. Tim, with family at times, would occasionally make the trip from Kamloops to visit. Michael was never far from our thoughts, especially Mum's.
Michael's final years were spent in Edmonton, but he has finally made his way back to the Miramichi.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at St Michael's Basilica, at 11 AM, on Thursday, 6 June, 2024. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Reception will be held in the church basement after the service.
As expressions of sympathy, donations made to Percy's Place would be appreciated by the family.
