  • Nancy Gerrish, of Quarryville, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 72.

Born in Quarryville, she was the daughter of the late Mabel (Jardine) and Paul Stewart. Nancy was a bank teller, store clerk at Astle’s General Store, life-time member of the United Church Women, Steward for Saint Mark’s United Church, treasurer for Saint Mark’s United Church Cemetery, clogger, square dancer, and member of the Millerton Seniors Card Group and Upper Derby Card Group.

She is greatly missed by her husband of fifty-one years Lawrence Gerrish; two sons Ian of Miramichi and Kyle (Bernadette) of Calgary, AB; one sister Cheryl of Quarryville; one brother Perry (Alexina) of Fredericton; much loved granddaughter Harper Gerrish and her daughter in law Cara Lea; special niece Kim Stewart, Brad, Sam & Jack; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a large circle of friends.

For those who knew Nancy, you will always remember her! She was a proud Miramichier who never missed the opportunity to attend a festival, musical event, or craft sale on the river. Over the years, Nancy’s kitchen was a gathering place for friends and family where she loved reminiscing and telling a story or two. Holidays were her favourite times of the year. She decorated their home for every season and cooked with pride for “everyone up and down the road”. Her peanut brittle was famous, requested by many and Harper usually left Nannan’s with a bag of homemade rolls. For thirty-six years, Nancy reserved one night a week for a very special group of women – the Upper Derby Card Group. Nancy loved deeply, was generous with her time for others, a cheerleader for many young people in the community and so proud of the accomplishments of Ian and Kyle. In her final months, she taught us how to gracefully accept what cannot be changed but celebrate a well lived life with people you love.

Besides her parents; she was predeceased by her brother Paul Stewart, close aunt Irma Jardine, and nephew Jason Stewart.

Nancy’s family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to the nurses and doctors at the George Dumont Hospital and Miramichi Regional Hospital for their medical expertise and care for Nancy.

At Nancy's request, there will be a memorial service held on Sunday October 25th at 2pm at her home-3534 Route 108 Hwy Quarryville.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Saint Mark's United Church Cemetery Fund or to a memorial of one's choice.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of Northumberland Funeral Home, 102 Pleasant St., telephone (506) 622-7741.
