Rance Albert Smallwood, spouse of Carmeline McMahon of Miramichi, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, August 8th, 2018, after a brief illness.
Born in Newcastle N.B., Rance worked in the car sales business for over 45 years, almost entirely on the Miramichi. He thoroughly enjoyed his work, his colleagues and customers. In his downtime, he enjoyed camping with friends.
In addition to Carmeline, Rance is survived by his mother, Joyce Smallwood of Maple Glen; 3 children: Quentin (Albertine) of Miramichi, Orlan (Cassidy) of Cochrane, Alberta, and Alyson (Sherman Brennan) of Miramichi; stepson Jeremy McMahon (Tanya) of Miramichi; 6 Grandchildren: Luke and Lachlyn Smallwood of Alberta, Ellie and Owen Smallwood, and Keynan Brennan of Miramichi; 3 brothers: Hazen (Donna) and Blake of Maple Glen, and Lindsay (Shannon) of Yellowknife, NWT; 2 sisters: Dana Allison (Stephen) of Trout Brook, and Sandra Jardine (Merlin) of Maple Glen, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Raymond Smallwood.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gerard Losier, staff of the Miramichi Hospital, and caregiver Janet for their care and diligence. Special thanks to his brother Hazen for spending all of his nights by Rance’s side. Also, the family extends sincerest gratitude to the amazing Extra Mural nurses (Jennifer, Cathy, Brenda, Sherry Lynne and Heather) for their incredible support and compassion as Rance rested at home in his final days.
As per Rance’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. An interment service for family will follow at the Maple Glen Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donation may be made to the NB Extra Mural Program, or the Maple Glen Cemetery fund.
