It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Percy Hosford, 71, of Whitneyville, NB announce his passing on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, peacefully at Percy’s Place with family by his side.
Born in Miramichi, NB on July 3, 1952, he was the son of the late Vincent and Elva (Matchett) Hosford. Ricky was a well-known funeral director in the Miramichi region for many years and then worked for UPM prior to his retirement.
Ricky will be greatly missed by his daughters, Shasta (Dwayne) and Alison (Guy), his four grandchildren Tyra, Keaton, Christopher, and Sophie along with his siblings Bruce (Cathy) Hosford, Alma (Delbert) Matchett, Robert Hosford. Ricky is also survived by his former wife, Starr Hosford. He was predeceased by his parents.
Ricky was an avid hockey and ball player in his younger years. He then became a respected coach for various competitive hockey teams and many ladies ball teams. He took great pride in shaping the lives of the young people in his community and enjoyed watching them succeed and thrive. Ricky always had a great sense of humor. He was still cracking jokes and tormenting the staff right up until his last days. He kept the staff of O’Reilly Court entertained for the last few years with his quick wit and saucy personality. His daughters and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He never missed an opportunity to brag about them.
Throughout their hockey years, he never missed a hockey practice or game – always cheering them on and being their biggest supporter. He became quite a taxi driver after retirement, driving the kids to school daily and even driving Shasta and friends to and from parties. He will always be fondly remembered as “Poppy Ricky” by all those who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank all the caring staff that made his stay at the nursing home more enjoyable. We would also like to acknowledge Dr. Arthur Losier and Charis Lynch who went above and beyond to care for our dad. Special thanks to Dr. Gerard Losier and the staff of Percy’s Place for making a hard transition go so smoothly.
Visitation will take place at Northumberland Funeral Home on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 1- 2:45 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 3 pm immediately following the visitation with Reverend Kevin Matthews officiating.
As expressions of sympathy, donations made to Percy’s Place would be greatly appreciated by the family.
