It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Robert "Bobby" Matchett, of Bridgeview Hall, and formerly of Sillikers, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 86.
Born in Miramichi, he was the son of the late Hugh and Edna (MacDonald) Matchett. He was retired from CFB Chatham where he worked as a painter.
Bobby was a kind and charming man who loved his family. He was married to the love of his life, Bernice, for 60 years. He enjoyed a house full of people and making sure everyone was well fed. He was an amazing husband and father. His grand kids and great grand children were everything to him.
His passions were playing cards, drives in the woods, watching westerns, yard sailing, cooking, grocery shopping and trips to Maine.
He will be greatly missed by his daughters Carrie MacIvor (Keith) of South Esk, Linda Matchett of Miramichi and Jennifer Trevors of Miramichi; son Gene Matchett of Red Bank; brother Hughie Matchett (Carmel) of South Esk; grandchildren Phillip, Justin, Michael, Brooke, Bailey, and Kianna; great grandchildren Elexis, Skylaa, Avery, Storm, Hudson, and Taliyah; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Bernice (Taylor) Matchett; brothers Mark, Eugene, John, Jimmy, and Bernie; sisters Hattie, Eva, Evelyn, Bertha, and Vivian; and granddaughter Melissa "Lala" Stemm.
We would like to say a special thanks to nieces Joyce Kingston and Valerie Doucet for their love and support.
Visitation will take place at Northumberland Funeral Home, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 11 am to 11:45 am. The funeral service will follow at 12 pm, with Rev. Willard Watling officiating.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or to a memorial of one's choice.
