Robert James Smith, of Whitney, passed away on Tuesday November 29,2016, at the age of 77.
Born in Warwick Settlement, he was the son of the late Hiram and Barbara (Jardine) Smith. He worked as a firefighter with the city of Toronto until his retirement.
He will be sadly missed by his daughter Jennifer (Andrew Wright) of Mississauga, ON; four sisters Gloria Johnstone of Red Bank, June MacTavish (Donald) of Halcomb, Lucy Rice (George) of Hamilton, and Faye Gilks (Edward) of South Esk; two brothers Sterling of Miramichi and Delbert (Faye) of Millerton; two grandchildren Lucas and MacKenzie; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Frank, Jack, Beverly, and Burton; and sisters Margaret Johnstone, Diann Johnson, and infant sister Joan.
The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home, 102 Pleasant St, on Sunday, December 4, 2016, from 2 to 5 pm. The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 5, 2016, at 2 pm, from Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Gerry Laskey officiating.
A Holy Eucharist Service will also take place on Sunday, December 4, 2016, at 11 am, from St Peter's Anglican Church, in Millerton. All are welcome to attend.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association,Heart & Stroke Foundation, or to a memorial of one's choice.
