It is with broken hearts that the family announce the passing of Shirley Leonard Duffy, of White Rapids, who passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 80.
Born in Chatham, he was the son of the late Vincent and Bernice (Tucker) Duffy.
Shirley's greatest love was his family. Catherine, the four girls and their families were his world.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
He worked for over 40 years as a Porter Operator until his sickness forced him into earlier than planned retirement.
Shirley had a deep passion for music. He donated his time and talents by playing the guitar for many concerts, variety shows and benefits to help those in need.
Many many years ago he became the lead guitar player in the (late) Amy Jardine's, The Good Times Band; which he enjoyed immensely.
16 years ago, Shirley took great pride in knowing that he started the White Rapids' Monday night Jam session, which brought many people together forming new friendships with their love of music.
He was a member of St Bridget's Roman Catholic Church.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 58 years, Catherine Duffy; four daughters Marlene Nash (Kirby) of White Rapids, Gail Sullivan (Granvel) of Upper Derby, Rhonda Sturgeon (late Blaine) of White Rapids, and Carla Sullivan (Hayward) of Warwick Road; five sisters Carmel Anderson (Ernie), Sharon Hallihan (Jim), Norma Burns (Freddy), Daphne Duffy (Kim), and Nancy Jardine (Paul); one brother Raymond Duffy (Theresa); six grandchildren Cara Dawn (Clinton), Justin (Natalie), Adam (Kerri-Ann), Mitchell (Nicole), Zachary (Sarah), and Devon (Sheri); five great grandchildren Dawson, Nicole, Hudson, Kate, and Blaikly; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his granddaughter Falon Sturgeon; son-in-law Blaine Sturgeon; four brothers Stephen Duffy, Lindon Duffy, Pat Duffy, and Wayne Duffy; and his niece Barbie Duffy.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the White Rapids Hall on Friday, February 11, 2022, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 11am, at St. Bridget's Roman Catholic Church, Renous, with Father Paul Doucet officiating.
