On April 21, 2024 following a brief illness, surrounded by family Shirley Matchett passed away peacefully in the loving care of Percy’s Place.
Shirley was born on July 13,1939 in Sunny Corner, the daughter of the late Osborne and Dora Johnston.
She is survived by her two siblings, John (Donna) Johnston, Jim (Lina) Johnston, and sister in law Nan Johnston. Shirley was married to Clark Matchett (predeceased) and together had three children, Kimberley Volpé (Jeannot) of Saint Jacques, Darren (Lisa) of Miramichi and Erik (Marie) of Fredericton, 3 grandchildren Bryston (Jordan), Kayden and Norah, one great grandchild Warren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was predeceased by her brother Donald Johnston, and grandchild Tiffany Jardine.
With her quick wit and keen sense of humor, Shirley will be missed by her close friends and family. Remembered for creating delicious meals, hosting many occasions over the years. Memories of a full house, laughter and good friends will be cherished in our hearts. Forever the avid duplicate bridge enthusiast, Shirley made many lifelong friendships around the card table.
She deeply cherished the odd bridge tournament and of course her coveted Gold Life Masters achievement. In her later years, family and friends will recall with affection, her love for game shows and the odd sporting event. Her generosity, humor, and cravings for all things chocolate will be sincerely missed.
