  • Surrounded by his loving family, Wayne Burton Kelly passed away at his home in Blackville on December 1, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wayne was born in Gray Rapids on October 13, 1946 to the late Helen Kelly.

On June 29, 1968 he married Laurina Underhill and they spent the next 45 years raising their children and enjoying the home they built in 1973.
Survived by his wife, Laurina, two sons, Gregory (Misty) of Fredericton, Perry (Brenda) of South Nelson and one daughter, Angela Tozer (Jason) of Lincoln.

Wayne and Laurina were blessed with seven grandchildren: Jackson Tozer (21), Zachary Kelly (17), Lauren Tozer (16), Ethan Kelly (15), Ryan Tozer (14), Emily Kelly (13) and Logan Tozer (11).

He is survived by one brother, Byron Coughlan (Heather) of Gray Rapids.
Wayne was self-employed as a long haul trucker and worked with Caldwell Trucking primarily for 35 years. Wayne’s “Charlie Brown” handle is known to all truckers along with his friendly manner and many treats.

Named Canada’s top trucker in 1997, Wayne was chosen because of the true spirit of a Knight of the road. He always stopped to lend a hand and help everyone that needed it.

When he wasn’t working, Wayne could be found enjoying his favourite past time: fishing on the Miramichi River.

Wayne was a long-time member of the Gray Rapids United Pentecostal Church.

Visitation will be held from Northumberland Funeral Home, on Monday, December 2, 2013, from 7 to 9 pm and on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at 11 am, from the United Pentecostal Church, in Gray Rapids, with Pastor Graham Russell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
